We are the founders of SYND Global Health funding campaign dedicated to raising awareness on HPV and cervical cancer. It all started with an opportunity to travel to Mysore, India through Florida International University Global Health Study Abroad Research Program. While in Mysore we were exposed to multiple health clinics and hospitals where we engaged with healthcare professionals on different types of global health issues that affect the Indian population. During this experience, what impacted us most was the lack education and awareness on cervical cancer. It was brought to our attention that in India government funding only provides 1 pap smear for every woman in their lifetime, which puts women at high risk for infectious diseases. That is why we have decided to team with PHRII in campaigning towards raising money for HPV & cervical cancer screening. We hope to raise responsiveness not only to our community, but globally on how important regular screenings are as preventative measure to cervical cancer.
